Green Hustle Festival is a celebration of life and creativity that aims to make our city greener, healthier, and more connected.
Join in and be part of an epic party of positivity, hosted by an unparalleled cross-pollination of humans, from talented creatives to independent makers and cultural institutions.
For one weekend in June you’ll imagine a better future, explore your city and discover inspiring people, loving communities, and moving moments along the way. Old Market Square will sing with music, creativity will creep up from the gutters, and seeds of wild ideas will be sown in Nottingham’s fertile soil.

Move your bodies to music from all over the world on the main stage
Programmed by Nottingham institution Cultural Vibrations - Unity Through Music, our main stage will feature yoga and movement as well as djembe drumming, a community gospel choir, classical music, R&B and legendary Nottingham DJ acts.

Help us out
Keep an eye out for our travel surveys at events, you'll see them dotted around the festival site. All you have to do is scan the QR code with your phone camera and fill out the survey, we aim to make our festival as eco friendly as possible and we would love your help.
Accessibility
Our festival has been programmed with wheelchairs and different access needs in mind. In terms of getting here, if you need to use taxis or private vehicles we welcome you to our event, but please consider requesting or using an electric or hybrid vehicle if it is practical and affordable to do so.
E-bikes and e-scooters
Especially if charged with renewable electricity, these options are much better for the environment than petrol or diesel cars. Download the Lime app to find and book an e-bike, and the LINK app to hire an e-scooter in Nottingham. Please ride safely and be considerate.
Public transport
Nottingham has a wide range of public transport options including renewably powered trams from NET, two great bus companies in Nottingham City Transport and trentbarton (currently charging only £2 for a one-way ticket) and is well linked by rail.
Walk, roll or ride
If you’re close enough to town and able to get to the festival without using a car, there’s no healthier or lower emission way than by your own steam. Visit Transport Nottingham for a free cycle map, or pick one up from the Nottingham Tourism Information Centre.
Why it matters
Audience travel makes up around 80% of total emissions at a typical festival. Our data for 2022’s Hockley Hustle festival shows the equivalent of around 14.9 tonnes (about six mature trees worth) of carbon was emitted through travel alone.

Legacy
Green Hustle C.I.C. has already planted over 2,500 trees to help make sure we’re improving natural habitats and sequestering carbon directly, and through the festival we’ll be helping restore and transform urban and green spaces to be more welcoming for nature and people. We aim to leave a lasting, community-led and nurtured green legacy that has the side benefit of helping offset the emissions we can’t avoid.
Waste
By minimising what we buy, avoiding plastic, and evaluating all our choices for the most local, low impact items we can afford, we’re hoping to keep waste both behind the scenes and on site as low as possible. Currently there is no local provision for collection of unmixed waste in the city centre, but we’re exploring the other options for handling this and better addressing our waste.
Energy
No fossil fuel burning is allowed on our Old Market Square site during festival show times, and food and refreshment outlets will be supplied by renewably generated electricity. We're also borrowing an electric van from Nottingham City Council for moving things around before and after the festival.
Transport
We’re committed to using bikes, electric vehicles, and public transport as far as possible in organising, promoting and delivering Green Hustle Festival. Some items like staging and infrastructure delivered by outside suppliers will unavoidably involve the use of some fossil fuel vehicles. To reduce this, we’re sourcing everything as locally and sustainability as possible to minimise any negative impacts.
Measuring data
We’re aiming to measure our emissions through data collection and analysis as far as we possibly can. We hope to reach a place where we can deliver a festival that ultimately does as much good for the environment, and the health and wellbeing of the local community, as possible.
Learning
Our team has undertaken extensive training in sustainability, ensuring a high level of understanding of our potential environmental impacts, and we recruit external academic support to make sure we’re abiding by the latest research and knowledge

Our Vision
We’re aiming to deliver an inclusive, eco-focussed festival that leaves Nottingham and its communities greener, healthier, and more connected. We’re working towards being able to define and deliver a meaningfully nature positive festival as soon as possible, and we’re going to share that working in the most accessible ways we can.
Our Aims
Guiding our sustainability actions are the principles of Learn, Act, and Share. We believe that by committing ourselves to understanding our environmental impact, acting to improve it and leave a lasting green legacy, and helping more people take positive action on climate change and nature, our festival and others can do more good than harm for the environment.
Our Plan
We hope to nail doing festivals whilst saving the planet properly, going beyond balancing our emissions, by 2028 in line with Nottingham’s ambition to be the UK’s first carbon neutral core city. Firstly we need to properly understand and benchmark this first large scale festival, but as soon as we can bring forward that date and share publicly how we’ll get there, we will.
